Scope: Full Redesign | Internal Renovation | Interior Design | Furniture | Garden
This project involved the complete refurbishment of a penthouse apartment in Kings Cross. The original layout was inefficient, with no proper living room, and one of the rooms had only a skylight for natural light. The property boasted two impressive terraces—one private for the master bedroom and a larger south-facing terrace spanning the length of the apartment.
However, the exposure to sunlight made the space excessively hot, making air conditioning an essential requirement for the client. Additionally there was minimal built in storage in the property, especially in the bedrooms. Our objective was to transform the space into a modern, open-plan living/kitchen/dining area that maximised both functionality and comfort, with the kitchen being the focal point of the property.
Our Approach
We began by completely stripping out the existing internal partition walls to open up the space and reconfigure the layout, ensuring the flow between the living, dining, and kitchen areas was seamless. Working with our trusted suppliers, we rewired the entire property, plastered, painted, and added custom tiling. We also revamped the two large terraces, removing the existing concrete slabs and redecking them with durable, composite decking materials to create a modern and low-maintenance outdoor space.
Materials & Design
Inside, we opted for clean, modern finishes to align with the open-plan design. High-quality composite decking was chosen for the terraces, ensuring longevity and a contemporary aesthetic. Custom tiling and sleek, neutral tones were used throughout the interior to maintain a cohesive, modern feel.
Challenges & Solutions
The south-facing terrace posed a significant challenge due to the extreme heat it attracted. To resolve this, we installed a state-of-the-art air conditioning system that maintained comfort throughout the apartment without compromising on design.
Final Outcome
The result was a stunning, spacious penthouse that perfectly balanced modern living with functionality. The new open-plan layout, combined with the refreshed terraces, provided an ideal space for both indoor and outdoor living, with the addition of air conditioning ensuring year-round comfort. The client was thrilled with the transformation and the attention to detail throughout the renovation.
